Abstract

Consumer protection act came out as a support and to provide socio-economic justice in this contemporary world. There are deceptive ways to promote sales and maximise profits through supply of goods and services. Section 2(47) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 prohibits the unethical practices for selling of goods and services and also replaced previous Act 1986 just to face the newly emerged challenges like e-commerce and data privacy.
This research paper briefly explored and analyse how consumers can be protected from unfair trade practices within the framework of Consumer Protection Act. The study also emphasised on new practices which are added in 2019 Act. It prohibits misleading claims, false advertising, fake Prize schemes, Non-Compliance with standards and many more fraudulent practices. This paper enlighten daily routine sectors who are practising unfair trading like e-commerce, healthcare, financial services and real estate. A comparative analysis of US, UK and European Union is also undertaken to provide global standards for trading. At last, it also concludes critical observations and policy recommendations who aimed at strengthening consumer safety and ensuring welfare in a more challenging marketplace.
