Domestic Violence Against Women and Its Impact on Women Empowerment: A Criminological Analysis of Registered Cases from Davanagere District of Karnataka

The present study identifies the prevalence of domestic violence against women as a significant social and criminological issue hindering equitable development in society. This research, entitled "Domestic Violence Against Women and Its Impact on Women Empowerment: A Criminological Analysis of Registered Cases from Davanagere District of Karnataka", utilises an analysis of incidents of domestic violence as documented by registered incidents in Davanagere District, Karnataka, This study intends to assess the effect of domestic violence on women empowerment. Further, the study analyses the factors contributing to domestic violence. From the criminological perspective, the research identifies patriarchy, economic dependency, substance abuse, dowry-related issues, and familial conflict as common root causes of domestic violence. It is demonstrated that domestic violence has a negative impact on the physical and mental health of women, reduces their involvement in education and employment opportunities, and is a direct hindrance to their social development. Social awareness regarding legal rights and the effective implementation of protective legislation, counselling service availability, and community-based programs/activities are crucial components to solving the domestic violence crisis. It is only through the elimination of domestic violence that women will obtain social equality and achieve inclusion in communities.
